Rio Rancho Events Center Vaccination Site
RIO RANCHO, N.M.—The City of Rio Rancho and Spectra Venue Management are excited to announce that, in conjunction with the UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center and the New Mexico Department of Health, the Rio Rancho Events Center will host an approximately 2,000-person COVID-19 first shot vaccine event on Friday, February 26. A follow-up second shot event will take place approximately three weeks later at the Events Center.
“Launching the Rio Rancho Events Center as a vaccination site is great news for Rio Rancho and for Sandoval County,” said Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull. “Many hours of hard work have gone into establishing a vaccination site at the Rio Rancho Events Center, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with all the organizations involved.”
“We are excited to continue to be part of the effort to vaccinate members of our community,” said Jamie Silva-Steele, President and CEO of UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center. “Partnering on this mass vaccination strategy with the City of Rio Rancho, the Rio Rancho Events Center, NM Department of Health, and Sandoval County allows us to work together to put our community first, and goes right to the heart of why we exist. We are proud to be part of this event.”
This event is limited to people who have registered for the vaccine via the New Mexico Department of Health’s registration system. Those receiving the vaccination will be pursuant to the State’s current priority system. All New Mexicans are strongly encouraged to register with the State by visiting www.vaccineNM.org
The City of Rio Rancho will pay venue expenses (traffic control, facility use, labor, cleaning, public safety, etc.) up front for this event (and follow-up event in three weeks), and then submit for 100% reimbursement of these costs via recently announced opportunities through the federal government and FEMA. Based on vaccine availability and distribution via federal and state government, the City and UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center are hopeful that additional, large-scale vaccination events can be scheduled in the near future for community members.
The City of Rio Rancho and Spectra are currently working to secure large-scale vaccination events with private pharmacy partners, which requires state government approval. Should these partnerships be approved by the State, the City and Events Center will enter into agreements and arrangements with these private partners regarding costs and reimbursements that will mirror the arrangements in place with the UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center.
